How My Tours Work

Metro Line one in Budapest with Betti Tour Guide Budapest

When you book a tour with me, I’ll meet you at your accommodation or another agreed-upon location, at the start time we arrange together. My walking tours are designed to be relaxed and flexible — I never rush my guests. We take everything at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Need a coffee or snack break? Feeling tired and want to pause for a bit? No problem — we’ll make time for that.

Please note that entrance fees to attractions are not included in the tour price. This way, you have the freedom to choose which places you'd like to visit and how you’d like to spend your money.

All of my tours are walking tours within Budapest, which I believe is the best way to truly experience the city. However, when needed, we may use public transportation to make things easier or more efficient.

Tours can end wherever suits you best — whether that’s a cozy restaurant, a local café, or back at your hotel.

I hope this information helps you feel confident in booking a tour with me. I genuinely strive to provide the best experience for every guest. You can find reviews about my tours on Google and TripAdvisor — and even a few kind mentions on Reddit, which I consider a huge honor.

I look forward to being a part of your journey in Budapest!

What will you see during the tour?

Step into centuries of stories on this relaxed walk through the Buda Castle District, one of the city’s most beautiful and historic neighborhoods. With cobbled streets, royal palaces, and sweeping views, this part of Budapest feels like a step back in time — but with plenty of surprises along the way.

What We’ll See:

  • 🏰 Fisherman’s Bastion
We’ll kick things off with one of the city’s best views. Perched above the Danube, this fairytale terrace is the perfect place to soak in the skyline — and snap a few photos.

  • ⛪ Matthias Church
Just next door, this stunning Gothic church dazzles with its colorful tiled roof and intricate stonework. It’s been at the heart of coronations, battles, and royal weddings for centuries.

  • 🚪 Vienna Gate & Magdalene Tower
We’ll pass through the historic Vienna Gate and stop by the Magdalene Tower — one of the few surviving medieval spires in Buda, and a striking reminder of the past.

  • 🌿 Tóth Árpád Promenade
This peaceful walkway offers some of the best hidden views over Buda’s hills and rooftops. Locals come here for quiet walks — you’ll see why.

  • 🏠 Residential Castle Quarter
Unlike other palace districts, this one is still lived-in. We’ll stroll past colorful Baroque houses, quiet courtyards, and a real sense of everyday life within the old city walls.

  • ✝️ Holy Trinity Statue
A grand and symbolic monument at the heart of the district, with layers of history tied to plagues, faith, and public memory.

  • 🇭🇺 Sándor Palace
This stately building is home to Hungary’s president. You might even catch the changing of the guard if the timing’s right!

  • 🏛️ Buda Castle
A UNESCO World Heritage Site with layers upon layers of royal, imperial, and modern history. Even from the outside, it’s impressive — and the views from the terraces are unforgettable.

  • 🐦 Trull Bird & Kolodko’s Miniature Surprise
As we wrap up, we’ll meet the whimsical Trull Bird, a local favorite. And somewhere nearby, one of Mihály Kolodko’s hidden mini statues is waiting — but you’ll have to join the tour to spot it!

This isn’t just a history lesson — it’s a walk through a living neighborhood, full of grand sights and little details you might otherwise miss. Whether you’re into architecture, legends, or just want the best castle-side views, this tour gives you the full picture of Buda’s crown jewel

What will you see during the tour?

This tour takes you through the heart of Pest, where grand architecture meets everyday city life. We’ll explore some of Budapest’s most famous sights — and a few thought-provoking ones — all while walking through beautiful streets full of history, charm, and local rhythm.

What We’ll See:

  • ⛪ St. Stephen’s Basilica
We’ll start at the city’s largest church, named after Hungary’s first king. Even from the outside, its neoclassical facade and towering dome make an impression. If you're up for it later, the panoramic terrace offers one of the best views in town.

  • 🌳 Liberty Square
Just a few minutes away, this elegant square is full of contrasts — green lawns, playful fountains, and some deeply symbolic monuments. We’ll talk about the Soviet War Memorial, and the controversial WWII statue nearby — a reminder of the complex layers of Hungary’s 20th-century past.

  • 🏛️ Hungarian Parliament
One of Europe’s most stunning government buildings — and definitely Budapest’s crown jewel. Its sheer scale and riverside setting make it a must-see (and an ideal photo stop). We’ll admire it from the outside and chat about the dramatic history behind its construction.

  • 👞 Shoes on the Danube Memorial
Just down the promenade, this simple yet powerful memorial honors the Jewish victims of WWII. Dozens of iron shoes line the riverbank — a quiet space to reflect, and one of the most moving places in the city.

  • 🌉 Chain Bridge
We’ll cross the Danube on Budapest’s most iconic bridge. As we walk, you’ll get postcard-worthy views of Castle Hill, the Buda embankment, and the Parliament behind us. It’s a true city highlight.

  • 🏛️ Hungarian Academy of Sciences & Gresham Palace
Back on the Pest side, we’ll pass the Academy of Sciences, then stop to admire Gresham Palace — a dazzling Art Nouveau gem, now home to the Four Seasons Hotel. Even just from the outside, it’s a masterpiece of ironwork and design.

  • 🛍️ Great Market Hall (Exterior)
We’ll swing by the imposing Great Market Hall, Budapest’s largest indoor market. While we won’t go inside, the area around it is full of local life — perfect for food tips, photo ops, or a return visit after the tour.

  • 🚶 Váci Street
We’ll wrap up our walk on Budapest’s famous pedestrian street. It’s lively, colorful, and full of shops, cafés, and people watching. A fun way to end the day — with a bit of bustle and maybe a treat from a local bakery.

Why This Tour?

This is a great way to get to know the Pest side of the city — its biggest landmarks, its quieter corners, and the stories in between. We’ll focus on the outside views, so it’s ideal if you’re short on time or just want a scenic, informative walk with plenty of photo stops.

Dohány Street Synagogue – Europe’s largest synagogue, renowned for its Moorish Revival architecture and Holocaust memorials, including the Tree of Life, a poignant tribute to victims.

Rumbach Street Synagogue – Built in the Moorish style, this recently restored landmark reflects the area’s once-thriving pre-war Jewish life. Inside, Islamic-style wall paintings and intricate patterns add a unique, exotic beauty to its architecture.

Kazinczy Street Synagogue – An Art Nouveau gem that remains the heart of Budapest’s Orthodox Jewish community, known for its vibrant stained glass and serene courtyard.
