It’s official — the Japanese cherry trees are in full bloom in the Buda Castle District, and honestly, this is one of those moments when Budapest really shows off.

The blossoms along the Tóth Árpád sétány fully opened on April 5th, 2026, right over Easter weekend (perfect timing, not gonna lie). If the weather stays on our side, you’ve got about 10–15 days to catch them — so yes, this is a limited-time situation.
The pink flowers are beautiful no matter when you go, but if you want that wow moment, go during golden hour. That soft sunset light hitting the blossoms with the rooftops of Buda behind it… it’s kind of unreal. This is easily one of the prettiest spring views in the city right now.

Now, quick reality check — it does get crowded. A lot of people are trying to get that perfect shot, so the promenade fills up fast, especially during peak hours. And it’s funny because most of the year, this exact walkway is almost empty. Then for about two weeks, it completely flips and becomes one of the busiest photo spots in Budapest.
That said, don’t let that put you off. It’s still absolutely worth seeing. And as the Easter crowds start to die down, it usually calms a bit. If you can, go early in the morning or later in the evening — much better experience, less waiting around.
A little bit of context — the promenade is named after Tóth Árpád, a well-known Hungarian poet from the early 20th century. It runs along the western side of the castle walls, and compared to the more tourist-heavy parts of the castle, it normally has a quieter, more local feel.
Getting there is pretty straightforward. Head up to the Buda Castle and walk toward the residential side of the district, or start from Matthias Church and you’re only a few minutes away. You can also take bus 16 or 16A up if you don’t feel like walking uphill (completely fair).
Overall — yes, it’s busy, yes, people will be taking photos for way longer than they should… but this is one of those short, fleeting moments where Budapest feels extra special. And for about 10 days a year, this quiet little promenade turns into something genuinely magical.
Worth it.
