I had the pleasure of visiting the Elysian Budapest sustainable cocktail bar, located at Akácfa utca 38 in Budapest. I had an amazing time there for a number of reasons.

The staff is super friendly and very attentive—you really feel like you’re part of a community. The team has a close bond and strong connection with each other, which creates a welcoming and warm atmosphere.
The entire bar is built around the concept of sustainability. All the ingredients used in their
drinks and food are sourced from within Hungary. For example, their ice cubes come from a factory that produces different shapes of ice. Elysian has contracts to collect the "imperfect" or irregularly shaped ice cubes, which they then repurpose to create custom shapes for their cocktails. I thought that was such a creative and environmentally conscious idea.
The layout of the place is well thought out. There are pieces from local artists on the walls, and a beautiful ceiling installation made from tree branches collected from the Danube River. One corner of the bar is filled with smaller stones that used to be part of the walkways at Római part—a spot I personally connect with, as I grew up in that part of Budapest. That little detail brought back a lot of memories and added a personal touch to the experience.

Many of their ingredients are made in-house, including their kombucha, which is one of my favorite drinks. I’ve never seen a bar make their own kombucha, especially not in Budapest, so that was a great surprise! They even make their own ice cream.

Their menu includes alcoholic, low-alcohol, and non-alcoholic drinks, so there's something for everyone, no matter your preference. They also offer a few bar snacks, which I tried—and they were absolutely delicious.
The music at Elysian also stands out. Instead of loud, party-style tracks, they play soft, chill lounge music that complements the space perfectly. It gives the whole place an elegant, laid-back atmosphere. I really appreciated that change of pace—it felt refined and relaxing, a refreshing contrast to the louder nightlife you often find elsewhere.
It’s also important to mention that their menu changes seasonally—and even weekly—so there’s always something new to try. That means it’s definitely worth going back multiple times if you have the chance.
What I really appreciate is that their sustainability concept isn’t too “in your face.” It’s part of their mission, and it’s done in a subtle but meaningful way. Knowing that I’m drinking cocktails that are sustainably made—and that this could potentially help the environment—is something I value deeply.
The alcohol is the only thing not made in-house, but everything else is sourced locally within Hungary as much as possible.
The staff uniforms are a unique blend of chef-style outfits and Japanese samurai robes, adding a creative flair to the cosy, elegant vibe of the place.
If you’re visiting Budapest and looking for a great cocktail experience, I would highly recommend checking out Elysian Budapest. It’s a bar that offers not just fantastic drinks but also a strong sense of community, creativity, and commitment to sustainability.
